Yoshitatsu Yanagihara (Yoshitatsu Yanagihara 1910-2004)
He was born in Hyogo prefecture. One of the leading sculptors in Japan. After living in Europe at the age of 43, he opened up a world of unique modeling such as pigeons and crows.
He was impressed by the stone Jizo statues and Hayagriva Kannon(Horse-headed Kannon Bosatsu), which were built , everywhere in the fields and mountains, as "Milestone" for the proofs and wishes of human. He created the "Milestone" series as a guide for his own arts. It also shows that birds in nature are destined for rain, wind and joy and sorrow.
